Stronach, Cadet Keith William (1906)

No 7 Training Sqn AFC

Keith Stronach was born in Melbourne on 2 February 1896. He was a Civil Engineering Student who had lived in Perth, WA, and was a Lieutenant in the 86th Infantry of the AMF, when he joined the AFC as a Motor Cyclist in Brisbane on 21 February 1917. He left from Melbourne on HMAT A32 Themistocles on 4 August. After service with the AFC in England, he commenced pilot training in March 1918, and was posted to No 7 Training Sqn.

He was killed in an aircraft accident at Leighterton on 7 July 1918 while flying RE8 D1513. It was his first solo flight in an RE8; the Court of Enquiry believed that the engine had failed while he was approaching to land, causing the aeroplane to stall when Cdt Stronach attempted to clear a hedge that was obstructing his approach.

Cdt K W Stronach is buried as Lasborough (St Mary) Churchyard, Gloucestershire, England.
