Ivan Richardson came from Devonport, Tasmania; he was 19 and a Motor Mechanic when he joined the AFC in Claremont on 22 December 1916. He had previously joined the AIF in 1915, only to be discharged when it was discovered that he was under age. He left Melbourne on HMAT A5 Omrah on 17 January 1917. After training in England he went to France with No 71 (Australian) Sqn in December. In July he was convicted of “driving a motor vehicle through a village at an excessive speed”. He remained with No 4 Sqn after the Armistice, but was sent to Scotland in March 1919 as he was suffering from Urethritis.

He died from influenza and pneumonia at the 2nd Scottish General Hospital in Edinburgh on 9 April 1919.
