Reid, Air Mechanic Class II William John (1039)

No 4 Sqn AFC

William Reid came from Clunes, Victoria, and was an Electrical Engineer aged 21 when he joined the AFC in Melbourne on 13 December 1916. He was assigned to No 4 Sqn, and left Melbourne on HMAT A5 Omrah on 17 January 1917. On arrival in the UK he underwent further training before departing for France with his squadron in December. Apart from a short spell of leave in the UK in October 1918, he remained with No 4 Sqn. In mid-January 1919 he caught influenza during the pandemic and was taken to No 4 Casualty Clearing Station.

He died from influenza on 18 February 1919.

AMII W J Reid is buried in Grave II A 13 at Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.
