Rayment, Air Mechanic William Charles (49)

No 30 Sqn RFC

William Rayment came from Melbourne, and was a Heating Engineer, aged 23, when he joined the AFC in Melbourne on 29 June 1915. He left Melbourne on HMAT A34 Persic on 10 August. On arrival in Mesopotamia he was incorporated into No 30 Sqn RFC. After the British withdrawal to Kut-al-Amara, nine Australian mechanics from the squadron, including AM Rayment, were trapped in Kut with the garrison and were taken Prisoners of War following the fall of the city on 29 April .1916.

He died from nephritis in Taurus Hospital on 11 November 1916 while a Prisoner of War.

AM W C Rayment is buried in Grave XXI O 22 at Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, Iraq.
