Marsden, Air Mechanic Class II Stanley Noel (2628)

Stanley Marsden was born in Parramatta, NSW, on 20 November 1896, and was working as an Engineer at the Clyde Railway Workshops when he enlisted in the AFC at Victoria Barracks in Sydney on 30 November 1917. He was sent to Laverton for preliminary training before he left Melbourne on HMAT A38 Ulysses on 22 December. On arrival in the UK he was posted to the AFC Training Depot at Wendover.
He died when he was knocked down by a railway train near Wendover on the night of 5 April 1918. Witnesses at the Court of Enquiry testified that he had been quite depressed in the days leading up to his death, and was upset about an absence of mail from Australia. The Court ruled that he had met his death while mentally unstable.
AMII S N Marsden is buried in the south part of Wendover (St Mary) Churchyard, Buckinghamshire, England. He is commemorated on the Honour Board of the Arthur Phillip High School in Parramatta.
