Hurst, Air Mechanic Class II John Edward (1463)

John Hurst was born in Burnie, Tasmania, and was a 30 year old Baker when he joined the 60th Infantry Battalion in Melbourne on 9 August 1916. He transferred to the AFC on 4 October and left Melbourne on HMAT A9 Shropshire on 11 May 1917. After processing in England he was posted to No 69 (Australian) Sqn in France in August. He served with the squadron on the Western Front until the Armistice.

On 23 November 1918 he became ill with influenza and was admitted to hospital. He died from pneumonia on 29 November 1918.

AMII J E Hurst is buried in Grave IX B 7B at Mont Huon Military Cemetery, Le Treport, France.
