Edgar Hansman came from Randwick, NSW, and was a 24 year old Boot Manufacturer when he joined the AFC in Sydney as a Driver on 25 September 1916. After a short period at Laverton, he left Melbourne on HMAT A5 Omrah on 17 January 1917. After arrival in the UK he was posted to No 71 (Australian) Sqn in April but was hospitalised in June, after which he was posted to No 68 (Australian) Sqn at Harlaxton. In August he was struck off the strength of the squadron and sent to hospital, where it was decided that he was to return to Australia for discharge on medical grounds. He departed from the UK on 25 November.

He died from leukaemia while at sea on board SS Karoola on 28 December 1917.

AMII E E Hansman has no known grave, and is commemorated on the Hollybrook Memorial, England..
