Grant, Lieutenant Eric Duncan

No 6 Training Sqn AFC

Eric Grant was an 18 year old Student, born in London, when he joined the 14th Field Artillery Brigade in Melbourne on 2 October 1916. He left Melbourne on RMS Orontes on 23 December. After about six months in the UK he transferred to the AFC for pilot training in August 1917. After graduation as a pilot he was commissioned in November and posted to No 6 Training Sqn as an Assistant Instructor, after which he was promoted to Lieutenant in February 1918.

He was killed in an aircraft accident at Minchinhampton on 4 April 1918 while flying Sopwith Camel B9248 after he attempted a half-roll to the right at 100 feet, after which the aeroplane spun and crashed.


Lt E D Grant is buried in Grave D Z 34/35 at Wandsworth (Putney Vale) Cemetery and Crematorium, London, England.
