Theodore Gillett was from Abbotsford, Victoria, and he was a 19 year old Clerk when joined the No 1 Sqn AFC in Melbourne on 19 January 1916. He departed from Melbourne on HMAT A67 Orsova on 16 March 1916. He served as an Air Mechanic Class I with No 1 Sqn in Palestine, and was attached to the 19th Brigade Royal Horse Artillery for much of 1918. In December 1918 he was re-mustered as a wireless operator. He embarked on HMAT A16 Port Sydney for return to Australia on 4 March 1919, and was discharged in June.

He died in Melbourne from a War-related illness on 12 April 1921.

AMI T S Gillett is buried in Grave CE U 322 (GRM/3*) at Melbourne General Cemetery, Carlton, Victoria.
