Francis Davis was born in Ballarat, Victoria, and was living there as an 18 year old Student, and Second Lieutenant in the Senior Cadets,when he enlisted in the AIF at Ballarat on 9 April 1918. Three days later he joined the AFC at Laverton, and then departed from Sydney on RMS Osterley on 8 May. After arrival in the UK he was posted to the Australian Base Post Office before moving to the AFC Aircraft Repair Section at Leighterton, Gloucestershire, in November. His brother, AMII E H Davis, was also based at Leighterton.

He died after a motor accident at Leighterton on 25 January 1919 after he fell from a skidding Leyland motor lorry.

AMII F G Davis is buried in Leighterton Church Cemetery, Gloucestershire, England.
